Payment Methods
Finding the right lawyer to address all of your legal needs can be a stressful experience, not to mention a costly one.
At the Law Offices of Adam M. Thompson, P.C., we understand the many issues a family faces when hiring a lawyer and we try our best to make the process as painless as possible.
We offer our clients several methods of payments designed to suit the individual needs of each client on a case-by-case basis.
We accept cases on a contingency fee basis, by the hour, by credit card and/or by payment plan.
Contingent Fee Method
We accept most personal injury and accident cases on a contingency fee basis. When a lawyer is retained based on a contingency fee basis, the client pays no fee upfront to the lawyer. Rather, the lawyer accepts the case and agrees to work on it for a percentage of the recovery. All expenses are normally paid up front by the lawyer and recovered at the end of the case from the settlement or verdict. The lawyer will only get paid if he is successful and wins the case. The normal contingent fee for an accident case is one third (33%) of the settlement or verdict after expenses are deducted.
For example:
If you settle your case for $100,000 and the expenses to litigate the case were $10,000, we would first deduct the $10,000 from the total settlement to recover the expense money paid by the firm. Our fee would then be 1/3 of the remaining $90,000, or $30,000. You would receive the balance of the money, or $60,000.
| Settlement: | $100,000 |
| Expenses: | -$10,000 |
| Sub-Total: | $90,000 |
| Our Fee (1⁄3) | -$30,000 |
| Balance | $60,000 |
If we do not win your case, you will not be responsible for any legal fees to our firm.
Hourly Fee Method
Another method of payment for our legal services is to pay by the hour. You pay us for all of our legal services by the number of hours we actually work on your case in and out of court. This is the common method of payment for criminal defense cases. We normally require an upfront minimum retainer payment.
Payment Arrangements
We allow clients the opportunity to make payment arrangements. We can work out a specific payment plan to meet the individual needs of your family and circumstances. We will do everything within our power to create a payment plan that is mutually acceptable to you and our firm.
Credit Cards & Zelle
We accept most forms and types of credit cards, as well as Zelle for secure and convenient electronic payments.
